This week's NextTech newsletter is with you, in sickness or in health.

Love. It'll be all we have left when the robots have taken over. Wait, they can do that too?

You can blame Michelle Albert for this. The bride-to-be, who lives in Seattle, asked the bot to write her wedding vows for that special day. The results were generic but sweet. Think "I love you more than words can say", which seems like a cop-out from a bot made to write.

DALL·E 2023-05-03 11.20.43 - a robot wedding, in a geometic style

Dall.e Prompt: a robot wedding, in a geometric style

But Michelle didn't just stop there. After being impressed with the results, she used ChatGPT for a number of other social situations. It developed her ideas on how to uninvite people to the wedding and even drew up an itinerary for their Hawaiian vacation.

Honestly, I have no desire to see what a robot Bridezilla is like. I'm picturing chainsaws.

🤫 One AI Project and Two Lies

Play along at home. Out of these three wacky AI projects, two are fake, and one is real. So, which of these new AI projects is unreal, and which is ugh, for real?! (Check at the bottom of the newsletter for the reveal!)

Happy bot-day.

Good news for those “people who have everything”. You can now download an AI which will generate the best present for a mate based on their social media profiles.

Roses are red, robots are silver.

ChatGPT has been used to generate Valentine’s Day cards, generating a bunch of (slightly off-putting) rhyming poetry. One read “Roses are Red/ Violets are Blue/ watch out for Jack/ Because he’s after you.”

SantaBot.

A company has created a Santa bot to chat with kids just before the holiday season. Parents can then be directed to the sites where they can buy their kid’s present request. Efficient.

💰Graph Of The Week

The shares of EdTech firm Chegg have plummeted by up to 50%, with a current decline of 48% to $9.04 per share. This follows the CEO's acknowledgement that their business is becoming obsolete due to the emergence of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Founded in 2005, Chegg began as an educational company that offered homework assistance and textbook rentals. Pearson PLC, a UK-based competitor, also experienced a decline of approximately 11.5% in its shares. As ChatGPT and its fellow AI technologies progress, they will significantly impact the world, and businesses, educational institutions, and consumers alike must confront the consequences.
