OpenAI to release Agent Builder

The rumour mill is swirling ahead of OpenAI’s Dev Day and one of the loudest whispers is that we’ll see the release of an “agent builder.” The agent builder is expected to enabled users to build their agentic workflows, connect MCPs, ChatKit widgets and other tools.

If that’s true, it’s another huge signal of just how rapidly OpenAI is evolving. Honestly, it feels like every single week brings a new announcement that reshapes the market in some way. And today could be another inflection point.

What’s particularly interesting is the ripple effect this kind of launch could have across the broader ecosystem. Think about platforms like n8n, Zapier, and other agent or workflow automation tools. Some people will be quick to predict this as “the end” for those players.

I couldn’t disagree more.

The idea that OpenAI launching an agent builder automatically kills the rest of the ecosystem is simplistic.

If anything, it will likely accelerate innovation, push integrations further, and expand the market, not shrink it. The reality is these platforms excel at different layers of abstraction and they’ll adapt fast.

We’ll find out later today exactly what’s coming. But either way, it’s fascinating to watch how fast this landscape is shifting beneath our feet.
